Die tooling
The word 'die' in tooling terms can be used to refer to any device that is used for cutting, moulding, engraving, stamping or reforming metal into a particular shape or with a particular impression. For example a die is used by the royal mint to stamp the impression of the head of state on a coin.
It is also the term used to describe the tool used to cut or form the thread of a bolt (the pair being used to cut the tread of a nut is called a tap).
A drawing die is a cylinder with a bevel-edged hole which is used to draw metal strands through to pull and create different types of wires. A similar shaped piece might also be used to shape cupped objects out of sheet metal by a press.
